  1. certain proteins in our body are actually broken down into ammonia during digestion, which is later converted into urea. While urea is typically removed from our blood and then excreted by our kidneys, sometimes it leaks back into your blood stream.
  2. It’s possible for urea to build up in your bloodstream over time – and cause your muscles to cramp up as a result. Other symptoms of high-uremic states include nausea, headaches and vomiting.

The most common cause of leg aches at night is poor circulation to your feet. Make sure you're wearing supportive shoes and socks, particularly while you sleep.

  • Not only will they keep your circulation strong, but they'll also protect your feet from long-term harm, such as early arthritis.
  • If sleeping with socks isn't for you, try massaging your toes and legs at night before going to bed—it will get blood flowing through them so that when you lie down, it's already moving.
  • Avoid diuretics (including alcohol) in late afternoon or evening; their dehydrating effect will leave you puffy and achy when you wake up.

What Else Could They Be?

Before you go too far down a leg-aching rabbit hole, it’s important to remember that leg pain can also come from other health issues. Stress, anxiety, poor circulation and even heart problems can cause similar symptoms. Take some time to make sure you don’t have another condition that could be causing your aches and pains. Be sure to talk with your doctor if your symptoms are severe or don’t subside after a few days.

How To Prevent Them From Happening Again

If you’re having leg aches in your sleep, it’s because of a muscle imbalance. You need to stretch and strengthen your hamstrings to fix it.

It's not a big deal, though. You can easily prevent these leg aches from happening again by doing something as simple as touching your toes a few times every day or walking up stairs sideways on an hourly basis.
